Lituanistics development
Lithuanistics encompasses the evolution of the state of Lithuania, including its society, culture, language, its heritage and present state as well as history of science and terminology.
Development of Lithuanistics is considered a priority research area and one of main pillars of Lithuanian science and education, while (scientific and education) institutions participating in the implementation of this priority are considered as conducting a strategic activity (of national level).
To finance the research in this area the Council proceeds with programmes dealing with Lituanistics specifically and focused on research in different fields of Lithuanian studies, dissemination of the results of such research and enhancement of researcher qualification, development and monitoring of digital information resources in Lithuanian studies, national and international dissemination of studies of Lithuanian philology, promotion of international relations and international recognition as well as publishing of works in Lithuanian philology.
The Council also maintains several Lituanistics related National Research Programmes.
The Council is also overseeing a development of international reserach database 'Lituanistika', which contains more than 40 thousand Lithuanian scientific papers on the subject, many available in full-text.

Lithuanian Studies and Dissemination Programme's (2016-2024) main goal is to coordinate and integrate the principal Lithuanian studies, and disseminate findings nationally and internationally. The structure of the programme allows to financially support the majority of Lithuanian humanities and social studies and published work.
The programme has contributed significantly to the broader concept of consolidation of Lithuanian studies across various academic fields and includes thematic, geographical and linguistic points of view. It became a continuation of the very first programme (National Lithuanian Studies Development Programme 2009-2015) launched by the Council in 2009 and dedicated to Lithuanian studies.
The programme aims:
- To develop Lithuanian studies, including all sources of Lithuanian studies and special databases
- To strengthen national and international dissemination of Lithuanian studies, as well develop research collaborations globally
- To support the publishing of Lithuanian studies articles, monographs (this includes electronic publishing)
The programme implements the priority of the Lithuanian studies (Lithuanistics development) strengthening the contribution of the Lithuanian studies into the development of the national humanities, and thus creating a scientific basis for the civil and cultural self-consciousness in Lithuania, as well as the preservation of the Lithuanian heritage.
