“Science Summer with RCL”: Young Researchers Presented Their Research Results
Today, 26 August, the final conference of the Student Summer Research Internship Programme, “Science Summer with RCL”, organised by the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), took place at the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University. Students who conducted research at Lithuanian research and higher education institutions this summer presented the results of their work and shared their experiences.
This year, 236 students from Lithuanian and international higher education institutions participated in the programme. Their internships covered a broad range of research fields, including the natural sciences, technological sciences, medical and health sciences, social sciences, humanities and the arts. At the final conference, students presented their work across eight thematic sessions and a poster session.
“Scientific progress begins with questions to which we do not yet have clear answers. Scientific inquiry requires curiosity, critical thinking, the ability to question existing knowledge and a persistent search for evidence-based answers. This is why young people’s engagement in research matters not only for their own academic paths – it also helps build a community that will formulate new questions, generate knowledge and seek solutions to the challenges facing society in the future,” says Prof. Juozas Augutis, Acting Chair of RCL.
From Fundamental Research to Today’s Societal Challenges
The conference programme reflected the diversity of research conducted by the students, with presentations spanning the natural sciences, technology, medical and health sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts.
Across the thematic sessions, students presented the research they had carried out during their summer placements, the methods they had applied, and the results they had achieved. The broad range of topics demonstrated the many different fields of science and the arts in which students can engage in research while still pursuing their studies, work alongside experienced researchers, and contribute to the creation of new knowledge.
From Research to Practical Application
During the conference, students had the opportunity not only to present their research findings but also to explore their potential applications. The RCL Science–Business Cooperation Division invited students to discuss opportunities for commercialising research results and learn more about the pathways available for turning scientific ideas into practical solutions.
An Opportunity to Experience Research from Within
The Student Summer Research Internship Programme is a research or arts-based internship programme that takes place in July and August. Students follow individual programmes at Lithuanian research and higher education institutions, working alongside their internship supervisors and engaging directly in the research process.
The final conference, “Science Summer with RCL”, provided students with an opportunity to present the research they had conducted over the summer, learn about the work of young researchers from other fields, discuss research findings and share their experiences.
