Call for Applications: Eureka Network R&D Projects in Biotechnology
The international cooperation network Eureka, together with 15 member countries, has launched an international call for proposals for research and development (R&D) projects in the field of biotechnology.
The Research Council of Lithuania (RCL) invites higher education and research institutions, together with their partners, to submit national applications from 1 April 2026 until 25 September 2026, 17:00 CEST. Up to EUR 1.5 million has been allocated for the implementation of this call. National funding is available to applicants who have submitted an international project proposal under the Eureka Biotech Call, in accordance with the conditions of the international call.
The aim of this call is to promote market-oriented R&D projects carried out jointly by academia and industry, while strengthening international cooperation with countries participating in the Eureka network.
The call is open to Lithuanian higher education and research institutions (HEIs), which must apply together with partners that are private, profit-making legal entities engaged in economic activities and meeting the criteria of a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME).
Funding is available for applied research (from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5) and experimental development, with the objective of achieving project results corresponding to TRLs 7–9. Projects must demonstrate a clear degree of innovation, a well-defined implementation plan, and added value created through international collaboration within the consortium.
The call covers a broad range of biotechnology fields, including medicine, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, and (bio)process technologies. It also encourages solutions in advanced biomanufacturing, next-generation therapies, agriculture, veterinary medicine, diagnostics, and data technologies.
Eligible international partners may come from Austria, Belgium (the Flemish and Walloon Regions), Canada, Chile, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Türkiye.
The maximum amount of funding available for the Lithuanian part of a project is up to EUR 300,000. Higher education and research institutions may receive funding covering up to 100% of eligible costs (for non-economic activities), while SMEs may receive funding of up to 80% of eligible costs, depending on the nature of the activities and the size of the enterprise.
The national application must be submitted in Lithuanian by email to [email protected]. The application must be accompanied by a copy of the international proposal, partnership documents, a detailed project budget, a commercialisation strategy, and other mandatory supporting documents.
