Chair of the RCL Expert Committee Prof. Vilmantė Borutaitė Receives a State Decoration

On 6 July, Lithuania’s Statehood Day, President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda presented state decorations to 45 Lithuanian and foreign citizens for their service to Lithuania. Among the recipients was Prof. Vilmantė Borutaitė, Chair of the Research Council of Lithuania’s (RCL) Expert Committee for Natural and Technical Sciences.

In recognition of her contribution to Lithuanian science, international academic activities and the promotion of Lithuanian research worldwide, Prof. Borutaitė was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

“Science requires the patience to hear what no one has heard before and the courage to seek answers where none have yet been found. I accept this state decoration as recognition not only of my own work, but also of the very idea of science – that knowledge created consistently and responsibly ultimately becomes a source of strength for society,” says Prof. Borutaitė.

Prof. Vilmantė Borutaitė is a biochemist, Professor at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Biochemistry at the Neuroscience Institute, and a full member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Her many years of scientific work, international collaboration and contribution to the development of the life sciences have earned her recognition both in Lithuania and within the international scientific community.
