Delegation of Canadian Higher Education Institutions Visits the Research Council of Lithuania

On 8 June 2026, the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL) welcomed a delegation of Canadian higher education institutions as part of the Canada–Baltics Education and Defence Partnership Mission. The visit aims to strengthen academic and research cooperation between Lithuania and Canada, foster new institutional partnerships, and explore opportunities for joint initiatives in defence, advanced technologies, innovation, and higher education.

The event was opened by Dr Saulius Olencevičius, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Lithuania; Agnes Pust, Chargé d’Affaires of Canada to Lithuania; Prof. Juozas Augutis, Acting Chair of the Research Council of Lithuania; and Academician Aivaras Kareiva, Vice-President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

The delegation comprised representatives from ten Canadian universities and applied science institutions: British Columbia Institute of Technology, Brock University, Carleton University, Dalhousie University, Institut national de la recherche scientifique, Lakehead University, McMaster University, Saint Mary’s University, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and the University of Guelph.

The programme also includes meetings with representatives of Lithuanian research and higher education institutions. On 9 June, the delegation will continue its visit at Kaunas University of Technology.

The visit strengthens the dialogue between Lithuanian and Canadian institutions and creates new opportunities for collaborative research, researcher and student mobility, innovation projects, and professional development initiatives. Particular attention is being given to defence, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, advanced engineering, health technologies, photonics, and other dual-use technology fields.
