Dr. Gintaras Valinčius is appointed Chairman of the Lithuanian Research Council
On the 16th of March the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania appointed Dr Gintaras Valinčius to the position of Chairman of the Lithuanian Research Council (LRC).
According to Dr G. Valinčius, the LRC must bring together the best minds in the country and act as an important state institution dedicated to expanding the horizon of knowledge, science and knowledge. The LRC will have to make a significant contribution to the dynamic development of our country, especially in the fields of education, civic and health innovation, as well as to the creation of a sustainable, high value-added economy in harmony with the environment. An economy that generates material and social wealth for our country and enables us to nurture our culture.
The new Chairman will strive to ensure that LRC, as a research funding organisation, is recognised in the international scientific community as a significant Lithuanian organisation of the highest international quality standards, by expanding its network of international contacts and by promoting encouraging our researchers to seek funding from the European Union and other international competitive programmes.
"I am convinced that a transparent, efficient and trustful system of competitive research funding is the most important factor that will help us not only to retain the most talented young scientists in our country, but also to become an attractive place for young talents from other countries to start their academic career, especially in the early stages of their careers, right here in Lithuania," emphasises the new Chairman of LRC.
Dr. G. Valinčius, presenting his vision as the new head of the LRC, emphasized that the LRC will continue to fulfill the main points of its mission - to ensure quality expert activities in all matters of science and technology development, to create a favourable environment for experimental research and innovation activities, and to ensure that taxpayers' money funds only the research of the highest quality, and that the public is informed about the results of the research on a regular and efficient basis.
The President of the LRC is appointed by the Seimas for a 5-year term.
The LRC is a particularly important institution implementing science policy, which performs an expert and advisory function - it administers the most important programmes for the development of Lithuanian science, sets criteria for the evaluation of scientific activities, represents the interests of Lithuanian science in specialised working groups of the European Union institutions and in the activities of many international organisations.
