RCL and NASA Discuss Opportunities for Cooperation
On 21 October, Acting Chair of the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), Prof. Juozas Augutis, met with NASA Representative in Europe Gregory Mann. The meeting focused on the outcomes and experience gained through Lithuania’s cooperation with NASA in international student internships, as well as current issues concerning the future of the programme.
Cooperation between Lithuania and NASA in international student internships began in 2014, with the RCL coordinating Lithuania’s participation in the programme since 2023. The programme has provided students from Lithuanian higher education institutions with opportunities to gain international research and practical experience, contribute to NASA research and technology development projects, and establish professional connections with researchers from abroad.
The programme’s latest results also demonstrate the skills and contributions of Lithuanian students to international research. In spring 2025, NASA accepted 10 Lithuanian students for internships, two of whom had their placements extended in recognition of their professionalism and contributions to ongoing projects.
More than a decade of cooperation highlights the importance of international research internships in nurturing young Lithuanian talent, strengthening students’ competencies and opening up opportunities to contribute to world-class research.
