RCL launches a call for student summer internships
The Research Council of Lithuania (RCL) launches the annual Student Summer Internship Competition, aimed at encouraging students to engage in scientific activities, improve their scientific qualifications, and pursue a career as a scientist. The RCL announces a call for the first stage of the competition, which involves the submission and selection of internship topics. Research and higher education institutions, along with prospective supervisors of student summer internships, are cordially invited to participate in this phase and submit their internship topics to RCL no later than 22 March 2024.
After the proposed topics have been selected, students will be invited by the RCL to apply for summer internships in research institutes and laboratories. This will provide them with the opportunity to conduct real research, gain new knowledge, and enhance their analytical and scientific skills. The internships are scheduled to take place from July to August, and students will be awarded a €2,000 grant (€1,000 per month). The RCL has allocated €750,000 this year to fund research internships for students in a variety of fields, such as science, technology, medicine, health, agriculture, humanities, social sciences, performing and screen arts, and visual arts.
Over the years, more than 2,700 students have been funded through this programme, spanning from 2005 to 2023. The programme is open to all undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated studies students, with the exception of those in their final year of study at the time of application. RCL would like to extend an invitation to students studying not only in Lithuania, but also at universities worldwide to take advantage of this programme to broaden their horizons and learn about our country's research environment and infrastructure.
This year's student summer internship competition will be held in three stages:
- Submission and selection of internship topics. The call is open from 27.02.2024 until 22.03.2024;
- Students apply for summer internships. Call period from 08.04.2024 to 07.05.2024;
- Selection of students for summer internships. Selection period ends on 31.05.2024.
RCL will be hosting a remote event on March 5th at 14:00 to present the call and its conditions.
Upon the completion of the internship, RCL will hold a conference where students will present the results of their projects.
